It is believed that this place in Vila Nova de Gaia (very near Oporto) became sacred in an ancient pagan cult, of naturalistic nature, but later was converted to Christianity. The chapel was raised on top of a rock by the sea, in 1686.
Held each year, the pilgrimage to the Lord of the Stone is one of the most traditional in the whole region. It began on sunday and it ends tomorrow.
